Amanda Buyiswa Kandawire is a commercial airline pilot and self-taught illustrator who creates art in the quiet moments between flights. Based in Dubai and originally from Soweto, South Africa, her work is inspired by travel, people, and the beauty found in transition, between cities, between identities, between versions of self.
Through Layover Art, Amanda transforms layovers into creative rituals, capturing the textures of new cities, the emotions of solitude, and the stories women carry with them across the world. Her illustrations explore identity, softness, and strength, using color and line to honour the places and people that shape her journey.
She is also the founder of Buyiswa, a wearable art brand known for bold, lightweight statement earrings. Where art turns into adornment, and moments into memory.
